Gala Harriers News August 2015

With no fewer than seven Scots representing Team GB in World Champs in Beijing. Laura Muir, Lynsey Sharp, Eilidh Child, Steph Twell, Chris O’Hare, Kirsten McAslan and Mark Dry. Gala Harriers wish them every success. And well done to both Mo Farah and Jessica Innes Hill for their brilliant performances over the weekend taking gold and becoming world champions.

Gala Harriers 5k track race 20th August 15Well done to everyone who took part in the club 5k track race:

first female Jenny Forbes 18min 43sec.

 

The track fees for Thursday night training are due to increase from the 1st September 15. Seniors £2.50 plus £1 to the honesty box juniors £2.  All fees go to BSLT and pay for the use of the track. All Athletes will register as normal but pay their track fee to the BSLT office.   Please see attached letter from BSLT. 

Junior Club Championships 6th September 2015

Gala Harriers are now preparing for our junior club championships on Sunday 6th September 2015. You can download  entry form from the home page and bring it to training on Thursday. Entry forms to be returned no later than Thursday 3rd September 2015. Any parents willing to help at this event please make yourself known to the coaches.

There is more Junior competition to follow with an end of season Junior Open graded at Tweedbank Sports complex 6pm Wednesday 16th September 2015. Entry forms available shortly.

Look out for entry to the borders cross country series, it’s due to go live on 1st September 2015.  Gala Harriers would encourage both juniors and seniors to enter quickly as it fills up within a few days.

Borders X Country Series 2015-16

  • Sunday 1st November 2015 Borders X Country: Lauderdale Limpers.
  • Sunday 15th  November Borders X Country : Dunbar Running Club.
  • Sunday 29th November Borders X Country : Moorfoot Runners.
  • Sunday 13th  December 15 Borders X Country: Chirnside Chasers.
  • Sunday 10th  January 16 Borders X Country: Norham at Paxton.
  • Sunday 14th  February 16 Borders X Country: Gala Harriers.
  • Due to the venue being unavailable there will be no race at Berwick / Conundrum this season. Any four races to count.

Dunbar Multi-Terrain 10 Mile Race

Please note that the entries for this race are now open. This will take place on Saturday 3rd October 2015 at 11:00 am. The event is open to runners aged 17 or over on the day of the race and takes in some of the beautiful countryside outside Dunbar. 

Refreshments for all runners at the end and showers/changing facilities available at Hallhill. Details and online entry is available via: ENTRY CENTRAL (Click here).

Colin Redmond Chartered Physiotherapist has offered his services to the club, you can contact him on: 07522996320. This is a  new  physio practice (www.futurephysio.com) based at Riverside Mills, Selkirk that may be of interest to Gala Harriers members. The practice is in addition to his current spinal specialist role with NHS Borders.

Wellington Athletic Club New  Zealand 

The Wellington club is celebrating their centenary. The club was founded in 1915 by Gala Harrier Walter Balantyne. To celebrate the 100 year anniversary on the 11th October 2015 both clubs will run a 100 mile relay on the track. (100 runners will each run one mile before passing on the baton). I require 100 runners to take part age 14 and over and be either a current or past club member, please reply and confirm you availability. This will take place on the Tweedbank Track with each runner being given a time slot. The overall time is estimated at 9 hours.
